Webmaster Notes - PC

This page should not be indexed.

The template for the Parish Council website is constantly evolving. My original intention was to make my personal website look very different from the Parish Council website. However, there are features that I want to be common on both sites.

The headers for the different screen resolutions are fixed on tempusfugit but scroll on the pc site.

friends_new and friends.html are different templates - will over-write on server. Redirection in .htaccess - the QR code must point somewhere? Need to check.
friends_new has a showform modal.

Looking in server logs clues to what the Internet "sees" (and the robots of course) reveals things nit found and that a 404 page needs fully specified URLs. Also when requesting removal of pages other pages are flushed out - such as the planning page.

What I would like to do

I have made changes to the Belchamp Walter histor page on this site. The top banner now swaps the menu to the right and the logo is a "home" button.

I would like to fix the banner to the top of the screen in a similar manner to tempusfugit. The banner text can also be made smaller.

At the moment I am pretty happy with the way that my main site works and the tweaks to this website are pretty much an aside. The fact of the matter is that there is never going to be a lot of traffic on the Parish Council website as nobody cares. The same can be said about the Village Hall Website if it ever gets decided that is what is wanted.

No Track and NOINDEX

Having worked out how to get Google to index pages and remove them at will (time-lag involved), the ability to have pages that are not tracked by Google as they are development pages and not index them as they were "wind-up" pages, I have applied that to some of the pages on the Parish Council site. At the moment I have no desire to post a Village Hall page (not that I will be aked!).

The tracking by Analytics of PC pages are less than critical as I know who is visiting. This is markedly different to my main website where I do want to see what visitors are interested in.

The Village Hall page is on the server but has a NOINDEX. So I need to check that it doesn't get indexed.

The lack of undertanding on how the Internet works

I am a bit of a loss here as there is no way that there is going to be any understanding that pages that are posted so that in the unlikely (or actually likely for a couple of residents!) that a page will be found by making a Google or other search, is "not helpful". Similarly, pages that are posted specifically tell the robots not to index them need to be posted containing search terms that think they are "not helpful" can't find them in a search, still need to be posted.

I know that I have said that the pages were notes to myself and they were unlikely to be found by the idle searcher. This is also true of this page and other purpose of posting my thoughts in the latest format it allows me to test and develop that format. The fact that some pages still are returned by Google searches when I now think that they shouldn't as they contain information that is out-of-date and could be confusing if they are found also needs to be addressed.

A case in point here are pages from E-News that refer to quiz nights that were in the past and need to be suppressed until an up-coming event has taken place.
