June 2025 Update

A village in Braintree District, Essex

The templates that I developed for the technical pages have been applied to some of the other pages on this website. This was done in the process of uploading both the financials and the meeting information relating to the Village Hall lease and the year-end reports. I must admid that I have been ignoring doing this for a while!

At at June 2025 there are two current templates, _template3.html for new or exisiting pages and _template4.html for new technical pages (i.e. should be this page). There are not a lot of differences at the moment apart from the title and the menu images. I am leaving the two templates pretty much as they are for the time being but this might change.

I have added some "webmaster notes" to some of the modified pages so that I can keep track of what I had done to the pages. These notes have no relevence to the visitor looking for PC information. This is of no consequence as there are virtually no visits!

I have and continue to review the structure of the directory structure of the website and although I was thinking that I had overcomplicated it I now this that I had got it correct. A page on my main site, structure.html, needs to be updated to reflect this observation.

Many of the formatting techniques that I have developed for my main site are being inplemented here. This includes that addition of the notes and the attention to consistancy between pages.

Navigation through pages is always an issue. This is more an issue for the Parish Council website. ie links within the text on a page is not easy to see but I don't want to add too much more formatting to these links. I have just realised that the stylesheet/framework must override the CSS Pseudo Classes for hyperlinks. ie visited colours etc. Looking at the framework css there is a lot of a: (anchor) manipulation which at the moment I don't fully understand.

Directory Structure and the use of the templates

As the finance data is stored in a directory stucture by financial year it means that a specific year is two levels down from the root. Care needs to be taken that links back to the home page and the parent page need to addressed ../../ and ../

Actually to simplify the links on a particular financial year the links back are always 2 levels as the "year page" is in the year directory.

As I have changed the format from earlier years I need to update the old ones but this is not a priority. An example is 2014-2015.html which will be replaced by 2015_2016.html using the new template. Be careful with this it is easy to over-write the old file.
